My Entrepreneurial Journey: Cresthub Award - 4

Here is a link to the Part 3: MY ENTREPRENEURIAL JOURNEY: THE  DECEPTION! - 3

As my third year in the University came to a round off, the team discussed potential channels through which we can market Cresthub for more visibility. After a serious tussle during the team meeting, we decided to host an award.

The essence of this award was to recognize individuals who have distinguished themselves in the area of leadership, entrepreneurship and of course community service. So we kicked off!

Nomination:

Nominating the right individuals in different categories was quite troublesome. Award nominations come with a certain level of biases, especially when you admire someone in a certain sector.

Eliminating these biases was the reason the board voted on the nominees before it was made public. As soon as the nomination was done by the board, the nominees were informed and things were set into motion.

The Voting

We used Facebook to handle the voting. The individual with the most likes in each category will be declared the winner. However, there was a poison pill attached to the rule: For the 'likes' to count, each user who likes the picture of a nominee must also like Cresthub's Facebook page.

This strategy was put in place to drive more traffic and growth to our Facebook page. It was not totally effective with respect to the integrity of the votes, but it was the best we had.

The duration of the voting was just 3 days. The 3 days were so intense that students were soliciting support for their favorite nominee. For the first time, I had a first hand experience of  how “virality” can impact one’s business.

The Success:

Viola!  We went from 200 page likes to 1,500 plus likes. For a medical school that has roughly over 3000 students, we pulled in quite a number. We went on to host the Award Night in partnership with the Student Union Government.
